One-on-one spiritual direction

Rebuild your relationship with God

Spiritual direction can feel like an intimidating term, but what we do goes by many different names! It can also be called spiritual companionship, spiritual friendship, spiritual guidance, or even healing your connection with God.

What is spiritual direction?

At its core, spiritual direction is about a companion coming alongside you on your spiritual journey and committing to walk with you as you wrestle with the doubts, questions, and difficulties of faith and of life itself. It is not about giving answers or instructions but rather serves as an invitation to reflect on the presence of God in one’s life.

We will walk with you as you learn to see God in the everyday stuff of your life, and be a gentle, safe, and non-judgmental space as you learn tools and practices to deepen your relationship with God, yourself, and others.

Alice Fryling puts it best in her book Seeking God Together: "Spiritual direction is a way of companioning people as they seek to look closely, through the eyes of their hearts, at the guidance and transforming work of God in their lives. It’s… the ministry of spiritual companionship."

We have found spiritual direction to be the something more we were longing for in Christian spirituality - and we hope you do too.

“BROOOOO there is nothing to be apprehensive about. Spiritual direction can only help you. It’s not therapy and it’s not designed to be, but this has brought me so much clarity on what God has been screaming to me for like me while life in some instances. This is the purest form of mentorship for me.”

 FAQs

  • Individual spiritual direction sessions are conducted via Zoom, and last 60 minutes. Every session looks a little bit different, but will typically include time spent in prayer and in conversation. The spiritual director is trained in giving their directee various tools to connect with God through contemplative practices such as different ways of praying, interacting with scripture, and other practices to discern the presence of God in their lives, and deepen their relationship with God, self, and others.

  • Typically the cost is $85 for an hour-long session. However, a special student rate is available and if cost is prohibitive, please just let us know and we will work with you as we can!

  • We believe spiritual direction is a practice from which any spiritual person could benefit. However, some individuals that might especially benefit from pursuing spiritual direction are: Those longing for more from their faith - those who are feeling stuck, dried up, or burnt out.

Those for whom traditional faith spaces are not safe or welcoming.

Those who have been wounded by harmful theology or faith spaces and wish to seek a more life-giving form of Christian spirituality or find healing.

Those who have doubts and questions to wrestle through, or who are going through a faith deconstruction.

Those who are walking through a difficult season of life and need help to see where God is at work in their story.

Those who are seeking to discern the will of God for their vocation or calling.

  • A coach is one who knows how to do something well and how to communicate the skill. A mentor is a more experienced follower who imparts to a new believer the knowledge, skills and basics to grow in Christ.

The biggest difference among these different relationships, though, is that coaching or mentoring relationships typically elevate the voice of the coach or mentor to provide instruction or training to the one being coached or mentored. The coach or mentor is the primary voice in that relationship. In spiritual direction, however, the primary voice is that of the Holy Spirit, and the director invites the directee to listen to that voice for themselves, rather than filtering it through the director.

  • Spiritual direction does not replace mental health counseling. There may be overlap in subject matter, similarities of style and tone, and there are many beautiful things they share, but spiritual direction always returns home to the directee’s relationship with God. The primary voice in spiritual direction is the voice of the Holy Spirit, rather than that of the director or directee.
